Hand washing
Children are required to wash their hands upon their arrival at the Center, before and after mealtime, after using the bathroom and after playing outside. Please encourage this behavior with your child.
Diapering
The following guidelines are used when diapering:
- Hands of staff will be washed before and after diapering each child
- Non-Latex gloves are worn by staff.
- Soiled clothing will be placed directly into a plastic bag and sealed, they are not rinsed.
- Changing table will be cleaned and disinfected after each use.
Tooth Brushing
After lunch, all children will be given the opportunity to brush their teeth. The Center will provide each child with a toothbrush and toothpaste.
ILLNESS
Sick Child Policy
Please contact the Center by phone if your child is not able to attend because of illness and state the nature of the illness. A child with the following symptoms should not come to school:
- Temperature over 100 degrees
- Using medication to reduce fever
- Child is hot, irritable, shaky
- Cough that interferes with activity or eating
- Vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pains, loss of appetite
- Any rash that is not diagnosed by a doctor
- Discharge from the eye
- Listlessness, fussiness with a fever
- Presence of head lice or scabies which are untreated
- Pinworms which are untreated
- If a child is not well enough to participate in all daily activities
Returning after Illness
Children who have been sick may return:
| Colds/Flu | 24 hours after the fever is gone |

| Ear Infection | 24 hours after the medication is begun. |
| Stomach Flu | 24 hours after solids stay down. |
| Strep Throat | 24 hours after the medication is begun. |
| Conjunctivitis | After one treatment |
| Chicken Pox | After all blisters are scabbed over. |
| Diarrhea | After all symptoms are gone, one normal stool |
| Scabies | After 2 successive days of prescription medication |
| Head Lice | After prescription shampoo, all eggs and nits removed |
MEDICATIONS
Staff will administer prescribed or over-the-counter medications only with written, dated permission and instructions from doctor or parent. The teacher will provide a form to be filled out by the parent.
All Medications must be:
- In the original bottle showing name of medication, times and amounts of dosage.
- Clearly marked with child’s full name and date.
We recommend that sunscreen be provided by each family. Please label and date the container.
FIRST AID
All of our staff are certified in CPR and First Aid and will administer first aid in the event of a non-emergency medical situation. This action will be noted on an Injury Form, and parents will receive notice of what occurred.
In the case of an emergency, parents will sign a medical release form which gives the Center’s staff permission to seek immediate medical treatment if necessary.
