The somewhat forgotten art of blacksmithing has come alive in the course taught by Ian Blackmer, Diversified Agriculture and Natural Resources Teacher at River Bend Career and Technical Center in Bradford, Vermont.  Ian has developed a shorter class period for high school students in the working of metal, blacksmithing, welding and fabrication.  Student enrolment has taken off! RBCTC EMS and Firefighting Students try out "bunker" gear

Posted October 16th, 2020

First-year students from the Emergency Services/Firefighters Program at River Bend Career and Technical Center have the opportunity to experience wearing full firefighter “bunker” gear while exercising. The project helps students adapt to the environment they might find themselves in during a fire event. Students also learn about staying properly hydrated during strenuous times. In a similar event, the class conducts a game of kickball while fully dressed for similar purposes. Photo by Bob Jones
