Instructors Ian Blackmer (Diversified Agriculture) and Lance Mills, (Construction Technology and Residential Energy) worked out a plan to raffle an 8’ X 10’ garden shed (could easily be converted into a “She Shed”, I am told!), constructed entirely from logs harvested by the students in the Diversified Ag. Program, and built by the Construction Technology Program.Besides the boards and structural framing coming from the harvested pine and hemlock logs, the slabs and cut pieces from the logs are going to the Ag class’s sugar house for use this spring in boiling sap.
RBCTC Criminal Justice Students "LEAD" the way
Posted January 10th, 2020
Criminal Justice students at River Bend Career and Technical Center in Bradford, VT, work on completing the 10-week “Project LEAD” program, taught by Deputy Sheriff Ken Schaffer, (left) from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. “LEAD” stands for Law Enforcement Against Drugs. “Project LEAD” is a national curriculum that focuses on good decision making, goal setting, self- confidence, and living a positive lifestyle. In this particular session, the topic was to compare and understand various brain scans of adolescents, and the possible permanent mental impairments resulting from using alcohol while the brain is still developing. Criminal Justice student Gavin Slider (lower right, Thetford Academy) takes notes as Ken presents this material. The River Bend Criminal Justice class is the only high school class offering “LEAD” in Orange County.
